Miller Hull Partnership/Metro Parks Tacoma
The 32,000 square foot, LEED gold certified STAR Center in southern Tacoma is a dynamic facility that offers rental halls, a music/dance studio, a demonstration kitchen, fitness room, and a dynamic indoor/outdoor children’s playground.
Stormwater from this Phase I site of the SERA Campus Master Plan is collected and treated through a series of stormwater ponds, designed to be a feature that complements the building. A path meanders through the pond system and ornamental bridge crossings emerge from amongst the rows of quaking aspens.
To the north of the building, bermed grass knolls provide seating facing the future event lawn. On the opposite side, rain gardens sited in proximity to indoor seating areas enable visitors to see how the gardens function while they look on from a dry vantage point behind a glass wall.
